It’s a…..

The big question….should you find out or not? While many new parents can’t wait to find out the sex of their baby, others are happy to wait. It’s one of the true surprises in life, they say. However having a “surprise” baby can prove a bit challenging when decorating the nursery. If you don’t love neutrals or yellow and green, you may be at a loss for what to do in the room. At the very least, choose furniture in a neutral color, especially if you are having your first baby. Ideally, you’ll pass on the furniture to baby No. 2. You can then wait to decorate the nursery or…come see us at baby coco. We have a solution for surprises! You can sit down with us and choose boy bedding and accessories and girl bedding and accessories. Bring us the doctor’s note revealing the sex in a sealed envelope. We’ll open it and order the right stuff for you! We’ll have you put down a flat deposit, so there is no hint of the gender. We’ll hold everything for you until the baby arrives and then make delivery or pickup arrangements when the special day arrives! We take this secret very seriously–our staff knows that telling is a firing offense! But we’d never tell anyway. It’s always exciting waiting for you to find out for yourself! If you’d still like to find out, check out ohdeedoh for fun ways to share the news with family and friends.

Nesting

Carson’s nursery

Don’t let anyone tell you differently—the nursery is all about the mother-to-be! Yes, this is the baby’s room but this is also the room where mom will spend the most time. Nesting is a pivotal part of pregnancy. Making the baby’s room a safe, sweet, beautiful haven helps the mother-to-be embrace her new role. Some women start nesting before they even have children. My friend K. bought the most exquisite little dresses for the daughter she dreamed of having one day. (K. is mother to 3 wonderful boys now.) My friend M., who worked at baby coco for a long time, planned her future baby’s nursery every time we found beautiful new fabrics. She must have had 10 different plans. When she did get pregnant, it changed yet again. (The final choice was stunning.) My other friend M. searched high and low for the perfect fabrics for her first daughter’s room. I thought she wouldn’t find anything she loved! Finally, we did track down the perfect fabrics. M. has recently given birth to her 3rd child, her 2nd daughter, and is incorporating those perfect fabrics in the big girl room both her girls will share one day.

This beautiful nursery mural–pictured behind our Oeuf Sparrow Crib and Changer–was hand-painted by mom and grandma. What a lucky baby boy to have such a creative family! We love this nature-inspired modern nursery!

My best friend as a little girl had pink wallpaper with rosy-pink tulips all over it in her bedroom. My 8 year old self loved it! I haven’t really considered wallpaper since. Katie Deedy of Grow House Grow has changed my mind. I love Katie’s philosophy: “living space should be filled with things that create an environment both personal and universal, just as a good story does.” I might have to redecorate my daughter’s room to incorporate her hand-printed paper. Maybe the bathroom..? Visit us to see all the color samples in person and to place your order. I promise you’ll be inspired!
