I can’t get enough of purple lately. Everything from lavender and lilac to magenta and aubergine–so cool and sophisticated! Purple is associated with royalty and nobility in human color psychology, from classical antiquity when purple dye was very precious and available only to the very wealthy. Now it is available to all of us but it still feels kind of rich, doesn’t it? Purple works with so many other colors–browns, greens, blues, yellows. It is also a nice alternative to pink. Not all girls like pink! I love Miss T’s sweet lilac and chocolate brown nursery, pictured below. I could move right in…

Baby registry at baby coco is a wonderful, personal experience. We don’t just hand you a scanner gun and send you blindly on your way. One of our friendly staff members walks you through the whole store to help you select the perfect gifts for you and your expanding family. Our registry is not available online but we are happy to email or fax a copy of your registry to any interested friends or family members. We are able to send photos and take orders over the phone to make it easy for your friends and family to give you something you really want for your new baby. Gift wrapping is always complimentary. Hand-delivery is available at no charge in Central Austin. We are also happy to ship gifts anywhere in the U.S. Registry only takes about 20-30 minutes of your time. There is no need to make an appointment but weekdays are the best days to stop in if you’d like to spend extra time. Our nursery checklist will help you get started.

Don’t let anyone tell you differently—the nursery is all about the mother-to-be! Yes, this is the baby’s room but this is also the room where mom will spend the most time. Nesting is a pivotal part of pregnancy. Making the baby’s room a safe, sweet, beautiful haven helps the mother-to-be embrace her new role. Some women start nesting before they even have children. My friend K. bought the most exquisite little dresses for the daughter she dreamed of having one day. (K. is mother to 3 wonderful boys now.) My friend M., who worked at baby coco for a long time, planned her future baby’s nursery every time we found beautiful new fabrics. She must have had 10 different plans. When she did get pregnant, it changed yet again. (The final choice was stunning.) My other friend M. searched high and low for the perfect fabrics for her first daughter’s room. I thought she wouldn’t find anything she loved! Finally, we did track down the perfect fabrics. M. has recently given birth to her 3rd child, her 2nd daughter, and is incorporating those perfect fabrics in the big girl room both her girls will share one day.

What is art? It is the thread that ties your child’s room together. It sparks your child’s imagination. If you have a large expanse of wall, you might consider a mural. Local mural artists like Nichelle Notabartolo (512.669.6232) or Leigh Watson (512.736.3331) can design and paint anything your heart desires. Murals are a great option for the wall behind the crib, where, for safety reasons, it is best not to hang framed art. If something less permanent is more your taste, traditional framed or canvas prints might work better for you. Oopsy Daisy carries an incredible selection of canvas prints. They are suitable to be hung as-is or framed by your favorite framing shop. Consider hanging a grouping of 2 or 3 pieces together on the wall above the changer or the glider. Mirrors are also a nice option over the changing table. Mirrors reflect light and add space visually to small rooms. Also, babies love to look at themselves–a mirror by the changer can help keep them distracted while diaper-changing. Be sure to have your mirror mounted securely to the wall so baby can’t pull it down. I also love anything personalized for a child’s room. My favorite personalized art pieces are metal or wood name plaques by local Austin artist Jennifer Warner of Salvage-Style. Plaques can be customized to match your decor. They also add some texture and dimension to the room. She also makes beautiful metal butterflies that look like they could just fly off the wall! These are just a few wonderful options for your child’s room. Stop by the store! We’d love to help you find the perfect art for your child’s room.

Are you gym-phobic? I am. I have the hardest time getting motivated to go to the gym to exercise. I feel self-conscious, I can’t find anyone to help me, child-care is questionable or non-existent. I would much rather exercise at home but it is hard to get started and stay in a routine. I am so thankful to have met Tatum Rebelle of Total Mommy Fitness! She came over to my house and showed me how to get a great workout at home. She showed me how to do various exercises correctly and safely. She incorporated some of my own equipment–an exercise ball, resistance band and free weights–and helped me to use them effectively. After our initial meeting, she emailed my personalized workout regimen! I love that I can call her or email her if I have questions. I also really like receiving her email newsletters with healthful hints. I am determined to get in better shape in 2009! Visit Total Mommy Fitness to schedule your own home session!

This beautiful nursery mural–pictured behind our Oeuf Sparrow Crib and Changer–was hand-painted by mom and grandma. What a lucky baby boy to have such a creative family! We love this nature-inspired modern nursery!

Did I mention we love bags? We are so excited to welcome Storksak diaper bags to our store. I don’t usually go for backpacks but I love the Claire diaper bag because it converts from a shoulder bag to a backpack. This is the perfect bag for active Austin moms!
